This just in: Olivia Rodrigo appears to be carrying the music industry on her 18-year-old shoulders.
The Driver’s License singer has hinted at what we can expect from her sophom*ore album and let’s just say it’s nothing like what fans have been predicting.
Upon the release of her debut album,Olivia collaborated with confectionerycompany Sour Patch Kids, prompting fans everywhere to speculate that the brand’s slogan could hint towards the musician’s next album.
“Sour then sweet” were the wordswritten on the box next to Olivia’s face, causing inquisitive minds to question whether the artist was following up her angsty record with a B-side of unreleased love songs, entitled Sweet.
Nice theory guys. But Olivia has weighed in, and it’s not going to happen.

Speaking to Clash Music, the fashion icon explained that while the Sour Patch kids saga was a “very interesting rumour”, it takes “a long time to make a record” and she has no plans to put out a Sweet counterpart to Sour. The 18-year-old did, however, clarify that she loves seeing her fans’ theories.
So, just what can we expect for Olivia’s next record? More sad girl anthems? No, as it turns out.
Olivia revealed that her next music project is“probably going to be a lot happier than the record (she) just made,” adding that her “tastes are always changing” and she thinks this will be reflected in the next album.
Well, it looks like we won’t be getting déjà vu, but we love the variety.

Theactressalso revealed that her dream collaborations would be with American singer and producer St. Vincent, or the White Stripes’ Jack White. Let’s start ✨manifesting ✨on her behalf.
While Olivia first hit our screens as Nina on Disney+’sHigh School Musical: The Musical: The Series, true fans also know that she starred in Disney’sBizaardvarkvery early on in her career, alongsidecontroversial YouTuber Jake Paul.

Her debut album,Sour, was released on May 21 this year. It immediately hit the top of the Rolling Stone album charts where it stayed for a week. With 302,100 total album-equivalent units, the record earned its place as the biggest debut album of the year so far.
The accolade, however, was perhaps bittersweet for Olivia as she actually beat out her idol Taylor Swift’sre-release ofFearless.
Though we doubt Taylor would care; she has publicly supported Olivia on numerous occasions now, even commenting “that’s my baby and I’m really proud,” on Olivia’s Instagram where the musician showcased Driver’s Licensesitting in the charts alongside two of Taylor’sEvermoretracks.
Clearly Olivia is following in Taylor’s talented footsteps, and we’re so here for it. We can’t wait to see what comes next for the musician.
