Facility Investigator/ Unit Supervisor

Department: Operations Status: Non-exempt

Reports To: Director

Environmental Conditions: Indoors PPE Needed: None needed to complete job duties; however, PPE is available as needed

Work Schedule:
11:00 pm – 7:00 am 1st Shift - Midnights
7:00 am – 3:00 pm 2nd Shift - Days
3:00 pm – 11:00 pm 3rd Shift - Afternoons
Varying work hours including evenings and weekends may be required

Pay Range: $23.00 - $25.00 Based on Education or Experience, or equivalent combination

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Facility Investigator/Security Unit Supervisor works under the general supervision of the Director. The role allows for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative when handling routine and special assignments. Work is generally reviewed upon completion to ensure compliance with policies, laws, and regulations. The Facility Investigator/ Unit Supervisor is directly responsible for observing and monitoring the movement of clients and others throughout the facility and its premises; maintaining facility in a safe, sanitary, secure and orderly condition; supervising clients in accordance with rules and regulations. Ensures staff on their shift are following policies and procedures and documenting activities. Assists in training new hires. The Facility Investigator is responsible for planning, directing, and reviewing the work of members of a security team in a community-based correctional facility. This position involves providing inspection, investigation, and related services to ensure the safety and security of the facility. The Investigator will directly participate in these functions and perform related tasks as directed. The Facility Investigator/ Unit Supervisor will be required to be available to work all shifts as needed.

Duties:

The duties listed below are intended to illustrate work functions performed by the position.

Program Duties:

  1. Plan, coordinate, and review the work of security and support staff to ensure the effective operation of the correctional facility.
  2. Provide oversight and supervision of security team members, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and regulations.
  3. Conduct inspections and investigations within the facility to identify and address security concerns or violations.
  4. Collaborate with the Director and other stakeholders to develop strategies for maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and residents.
  5. Participate in the development and implementation of training programs for security staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  6. Respond to security incidents or emergencies promptly and effectively, taking appropriate action to mitigate risks and maintain order.
  7. Maintain accurate records of security-related activities, incidents, and investigations for reporting and analysis purposes.
  8. Responds to client needs and conflicts in a preventative fashion to reduce volatile situations.
  9. Provides a culture of cognitive behavioral therapy by actively employing the use of cognitive-behavioral techniques for intervention and awards based on client behavior and per policy and procedure.
  10. Consistently, objectively and professionally enforces Rules and Regulations Governing Residency as outlined within the Resident Handbook and follows appropriate reporting procedures for violations thereof.
  11. Assures client movement follows agency procedure and monitors clients entering and leaving facility by following the established sign-in and sign-out procedures.
  12. Conducts visual head counts, isolation checks, facility shakedowns, and client searches according to established procedures. Documents all such activities.
  13. Strictly adheres to key control system established by agency.
  14. Exchanges information with on coming and departing shifts.

General Duties:

  1. Understands and adheres to policy and procedural requirements of SRCCC program.
  2. Maintains strict confidentiality.
  3. Remains alert throughout work shift and maintains contact with personnel on duty to be aware of unusual situations that may arise and/or problems that need to be resolved.
  4. May be required to provide transport assistance.
  5. May be required to escort vendors in, around and out of the facility.
  6. Supports, cooperates and works with other agency staff in meeting the needs of the program.
  7. Subject to being called into work at any time due to emergency situations and/or coverage needs.
  8. Be energy conscious and stress conservation.
  9. Completes required number of hours of in-service training per year. Participates in seminars and continuing education programs when appropriate and feasible.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience: Previous experience in a correctional setting or law enforcement, with a strong understanding of security protocols and procedures.

Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively supervise and coordinate the work of a security team.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff, residents, and external stakeholders.

Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make sound decisions under pressure.

Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in corrections and security management.

Certification in CPR, First Aid, and other relevant training programs is preferred

Skills:
Must be computer literate.
Ability to work professionally with subordinates co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to recognize unusual and/or threatening conditions and take appropriate action.
Ability to maintain records and prepare routine reports.
Ability to work under stressful and demanding conditions.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to effectively manage time and organize workload.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, the community, etc.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to plan, organize, train and direct the work of clients in the completion of their assigned housekeeping duties.
Skill in problem resolution.
